Last Week for 100k Chase Sapphire Reserve Bonus & SPG to Virgin Transfers

Getting the year started off right? Here are two Cards for Travel items you’ll want to add to your list for this first week of 2017 to make sure you’ve got the points to easily reach this year’s travel goals.

Apply before January 11 for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card

Chase has just announced a hard end date to their limited time offer of 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 on a new Chase Sapphire Reserve card within the first 90 days of card membership. After January 11, the signup bonus will cut in half.  In our opinion, this was hands down the best new card offer of 2016. 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points can go a long way to make your 2017 travel dreams come true.

Transfer SPG points to Virgin America  by January 6

If you have points in your SPG account from your Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express, you have just a couple days left to transfer these to Virgin America before the hotel group and the airline cut ties as transfer partners on January 6.

This is something to consider if you fly Virgin America or Alaska Airlines (or redeem points for partner travel through either airline). SPG points currently transfer to Virgin at 1:1 with a bonus of 5,000 points for every 20,000 points transferred. Beginning January 9, any points you have in your Virgin account will transfer to Alaska (thanks to the recent Virgin/Alaska merger) at 1:1.3.

That means that 20,000 SPG points transferred to Virgin become 25,000 Virgin points, and these 25,000 Virgin points transferred to Alaska after January 9 become 32,500 Alaska miles– earning you 12,500 bonus points along the way!
